Reply with quote | #1 | The Renovation of the Beach Parking Lot is underway. The perimeter of the gravel portion of the lot will be better defined, creating a few more parking spaces. However, the overall size of the lot is remaining the same. Over flow parking will continue to be on the grass strip between the parking lot and Bay View Drive.
The fence around the parking lot will be replaced with pilings and rope, rather than cables. The pilings will be similar in size and location as the existing pilings. The pedestrian openings will be wider, to allow better accessibility, and a Handicapped entrance will be provided along the asphalt section of the parking lot.
Two rain gardens are being added to improve drainage and to slow and filter runoff from Hillsmere Drive into the bay. A culvert will run under the parking lot to link the two gardens and to allow water to flow under, rather than over, the parking lot.
I hope you enjoy the improvements, and please be patient with the contractors during construction. If you have any questions, please post them here, or contact me at beach@hillsmereshores.net.
Thank you. __________________ Kate Penn, Beach Chair |

Reply with quote | #2 | Construction Update: The rain has slowed work at the parking lot a bit; it is hard to fine-grade mud. The contractor, Grass Roots, has to pump out the water and allow the ground to dry before they can finish the landscaping. Those tall pilings around the parking lot will be cut down to about 3-1/2 feet tall once the rope is installed. I expect the work to be done by the end of September, although the planting may have to be done in October when the hot weather is past.
